In the first half of the 1960’s Tom covered two major stories in the Whitby area: in one he exclusively revealed the exact location of the proposed Ballistic Missile Early Warning system at RAF Fylingdales. He also covered the demise of the Whitby to Scarborough and Whitby to Malton Railway lines. Later in the decade the dangers of Blue Bank, a fishing war and a Whitby church deep in pigeon poo.
